Ruthie
Cherry began her business as an art consultant in April 2002, having nearly two
decades of experience and talent in finding and effectively using art, graphic
design and color. As a consultant, she found the right artwork to meet the
specific needs, budget and tastes of her clients.
More
than six years ago, when Cherry decided to open a fine art gallery next to the
Loveless Café, several of her friends and associates worried that the Motel
Shops might not be the right atmosphere for fine art. But she had a vision, and
Ruthie Cherry Fine Art opened as an original tenant in the refurbished row of
motel rooms in July 2004. Within a year, she had expanded into a second space
adjoining the original gallery.
“The
relaxed atmosphere out there echoed how I wanted visitors to feel when they
came into my gallery,” says Cherry. “I want people to feel comfortable around
and really enjoy beautiful works of art. That’s why I chose the tagline ‘At
Home with Fine Art.’”
Even
as Cherry focused on the works of local artists, she went further and secured
regional exclusives to sell paintings from nationally-noted, large-format
painter Bob Ransley and from a Russian art importer who personally visits the
former Soviet Union to purchase high-quality work.
In
October 2010, she again made a major marketing shift back to art consulting and
jewelry design from her home studio in Franklin. “The change is in response to
the economic slowdown,” says Ruthie Cherry. “I will continue to work with many
of the fantastically talented artists previously shown at my gallery but
without the demands of a full time retail store. For example, I‘m proud to
continue the exclusive representation for Bob Ransley in the Nashville
region.”
